Our Groups
Beginners
This is our introductory group. If your child is a non-swimmer this is the group for them. Whilst your child is in this group we will take them through Stages 1 and 2 of the ASA learn to swim framework with the aim of building water confidence and movement skills in the water.
Stage 3
In Stage 3 we build on the water confidence we have developed in Beginners and build the swimmers ability to travel through the water unaided on their front and back and also introduce underwater work. During their time in this group your child will work through the requirements of Stage 3 of the ASA learn to swim framework.
Stage 4
Your child can swim 10 metres on their front and back and is confident when moving around on and in the water. Now is time to build the basic components of the 4 main swimming strokes. It is particularly important to focus on developing an effective kick. During their time in this group swimmers will complete the requirements of Stage 4 of the ASA learn to swim framework.
Stage 5
We continue to build the 4 main strokes working towards being able to perform these strokes confidently over a distance of at least 10 metres. We also introduce additional skills such as handstands and somersaults which improve the swimmers’ awareness of their interaction with the water. During their time in this group swimmers will complete the requirements of Stage 5 of the ASA learn to swim framework.
Stage 6
We continue to build the skills required to perform the strokes repeatedly focussing on key skills such as breathing. During this period your swimmer will complete Stage 6 of the ASA Learn to Swim Framework
Stage 7
We are focussing on improving your swimmers’ skills over progressively longer distances. We also introduce key skills such as diving. During their time in this group your child will work through Stage 7 ASA learn to swim framework.
Stage 8
Your swimmer is now confident in all four strokes. We are now focussing on the skills needed for competitive swimming introducing drill work and making use of training aids such as fins.
